What used to be a recycling plant has turned into a design furniture company, calling in designers and creative minds from all over the country.

Sabox Green have given a whole new meaning to the words ‘Green Card’. Old paper is collected, recycled, re-distributed and re-used in the same region for zero-miles paper and cardboard.

Just consider that in order to produce a ton of paper produced from virgin cellulose you need 15 trees, 440 000 litres of water and 7 600 kWh. Sabox sustainable packaging gets the same end result with 0 (zero) trees, 1 800 liters of water and 2 700 kWh.

Then they started transforming their product into extremely clever (and damn cool) furniture and design objects. The DIY furniture, delivered in a kit and assembled on site, is amazing. The chair, for example, is a lot more solid than it looks and really comfortable — I tried it myself!  It weighs around 2 kilos and supports up to 300. Assembly takes around 20 minutes and is done without glue, nails or screws.

Canny business practice and the trend for green design is taking the furniture all over the world — from last year’s Venice Biennale to Eataly in NYC.  The Formaperta brand includes everything from picnic boxes to pop-up shop fittings.

Just need the idea.
Hats off to Vito Francese and his team!
